Specialize In A Specific Technique

Aug 21, 2023

Hi, this is David Kats with Therapist Consultants and I have a tip for you. The last two weeks we've been talking about staying relevant rather than being relegated to old. I want to take time to give you a few more hints on how to stay relevant. The first thing you have to do is never stop learning. We found that therapists that specialize in a specific technique are more successful than those people who are just a wandering generality.

I don't care if it's EMDR or what other technique it is, if you have a technique and you use it, you tend to have a better practice and be more relevant than those people who never learn after they once leave their college. We encourage you to stay relevant by never stopping learning.

The next thing to be relevant is make yourself do it. Not too long ago, I bought a printer for my computer. They said it would be easy to hook up, so I took it home and I tried to hook up and I couldn't figure it out. I walked away, but after walking away a little ways, I thought, "I'm going to figure this out." I sat down and I worked with it till I got the computer printing perfectly.

What you got to do to stay relevant is just stay current and work those things out yourself. If you don't know how to work them out yourself, then hire somebody to either show you how to do it or do it for you, but stay relevant. It takes so little more to be relevant, to be up to date, to be on the cutting edge of your practice, to be on the cutting edge of the way you dress and look and act. It takes so little more to be first class. In fact, there's a saying that says, for 50 cents more, you can go first class, and I would encourage you to go first class. This is David Kats. Thanks for listening.
